Landing School to begin off-site training
ARUNDEL, Maine – The Landing School’s Board of Trustees has approved a new continuing education program that will feature short courses conducted, not at the school’s Maine campus, but at customer sites.
The school’s new program is distinct from its three traditional campus-based, full-term programs in Boatbuilding, Yacht Design and Marine Systems Technology. The decision to begin the new program comes after nearly three years of research and planning.
When fully developed, the program will offer courses that combine lectures with practical, hands-on, training labs in specific areas such as electrical systems, air conditioning and refrigeration, corrosion and other topics.
“What makes our program unique is that we take components of our industry acclaimed full-time programs ‘on the road’, servicing the needs of existing industry professionals,” says associate director, Glen Shivel.
By offering a complete package of portable skills-based training, employers – individually or in groups – can select those training modules that apply to their specific training needs. The core objective of the new program is to serve the marine industry with economical training options for their service and production employees.
The new courses will advance the industry’s drive towards widespread adoption of ABYC and ISO standards and best practices.
Initial course offerings in the school’s Continuing Education Program are planned for release this summer.
