E-TEC earns BRP more recognition

STURTEVANT, Wis. — Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. was presented with the 2005 Wisconsin Governor’s New Product Award, receiving “first place” and “Best in State,” for its Evinrude E-TEC direct injection two-stroke outboard engine manufactured in Sturtevant, Wis.

The award was presented by Mary P. Burke, Department of Commerce Secretary, on behalf of Governor Jim Doyle, at the 34th annual Governor’s New Product Awards banquet held April 15 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Governor Doyle congratulated 11 recipients of the Governor’s New Products Award with this statement, “These Wisconsin manufacturers contribute to the state’s economic growth through development, manufacturing and marketing of new and innovative products.”

The program recognizes benefits that come from the research and engineering of new products in the state of Wisconsin and focuses on rapidly emerging technologies, recognizes the contribution of engineers in new product development, and encourages the pursuit of science and engineering careers.

“This award is a welcome addition to the many recognitions Evinrude E-TEC outboard engine technology has received since it was introduced in 2003,” said Roch Lambert, vice president, general manager, Outboard Marine Engines. “The recognition should go to our employees in our Sturtevant, Wis., and Waukegan, Ill., facilities. It is through their hard work and dedication that Evinrude E-TEC was developed and successfully brought to market.”

Evinrude E-TEC has received eight awards and recognitions, including the recent “Clean Air Excellence Award” from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, D.C. on April 7. Governor Doyle congratulated BRP on winning the Clean Air Excellence Award with the following statement. “I am proud that the EPA has awarded an engine technology developed in Wisconsin by BRP as the cleanest outboard engine for marine recreational products. This outstanding and innovative achievement demonstrates a true commitment to obtaining cleaner air and protecting our environment. I salute BRP for reviving the Evinrude brand and developing advanced technology with such passion. I congratulate them for making Wisconsin a leader and setting a new standard for a cleaner and safer boating environment.”

Best in state winners will be entered into the 2006 National Society of Professional Engineers Product Awards Program by the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers (WSPE), the organization sponsoring the award program.
