Team Century/Nextel wins first FLW Redfish Series event

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Capt. Jeff Hagaman and James Goodwin of Team Century/Nextel won the inaugural Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series last weekend, besting 125 teams to win the two-day event in Sarasota, Fla., Century Boats said in a release yesterday.

Hagaman, of Lutz, Fla., and Goodwin, of Palm Harbor, Fla., caught a two-day total of four redfish weighing 29 pounds, 3 ounces and won $25,000 plus the $12,500 Yamaha Bonus for a grand total of $37,500.

“Both James and myself were impressed with the speed and durability of our Century 2202 bay boat, and we attribute much of our success to our boat’s performance,” said Hagaman.

Team Century caught six redfish on the first day in poor conditions, including a strong wind and cool weather. “We made the same run on the second day of the tournament, and caught around 20 total redfish,” Hagaman said.

The FLW Redfish Series consists of two divisions East and West. Each division is comprised of four events with a $200,000 purse for each event.

The top 100 teams 50 from each division after the four qualifying events will qualify for the three-day $300,000 Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series Championship to be held in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 27-29. The championship winner will take home as much as $100,000.
