SCMA elects new board and officers
CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina Marine Association members recently elected four new directors to its board to replace those whose terms had expired, and filled two new board positions mandated through a change in the by-laws, SCMA said in a release today.
New directors include: SCMA founding board member Rick Griffin; managing partner of the Downtown Marina of Beaufort; Deven Hull, owner of The Hull Company; Lane Jeffries, co-owner of Barrier Island Yacht Sales; Grant Whitford, dock master at Charleston Maritime Center; and Jon Shattuck, owner of Brilliant Yachts.
At a subsequent meeting, the SCMA Board of Directors elected Rick Griffin as president, Grant Whitford as vice president and as John Benton as treasurer. Milt Hazel, harbor master at Reserve Harbor Marina, and immediate past president of SCMA, will continue to serve on the board’s Executive Committee in an ex officio position.
“I am honored to take the helm of an organization that is so important to the recreational boating industry in South Carolina,” Griffin said. “I have watched numerous attempts over the years to see this association come to fruition.
“At this juncture, we have a strong membership base and own a successful, growing boat show. The association is enthusiastic to participate in many of the national initiatives, including the Grow Boating campaign, National Marina Day, and the Economic Impact Studies for the industry conducted by Dr. Ed Mahoney of Michigan State University. I look forward to continuing the growth of the association and overall, the boating industry in South Carolina.”
Other members of the SCMA Board of Directors include Joanie Malindzak, owner of Carolina Captains, and Tom Wilson, owner of Port Royal Landing Marina.
