Companies donate AEDs for Key West 2005

CHICAGO – Charles Marine and HeartSine Technologies have signed on as industry partners of Key West 2005 regatta as the official automatic external defibrillator supplier.

This year’s midwinter keelboat regatta reports 300 entries including boats from 14 foreign countries and a record 36 states. Managed by Premiere Racing, nine races are scheduled from Jan. 17 – 21, 2005.

“Safety is a major priority for Key West 2005,” said Peter Craig of Premiere Racing. “We approached Charles Marine several months ago with the request for several Samaritan AEDs to use in safety stations at the event.”

Having AEDs on site is a timely issue and imperative to race officials and entrants, according to the companies. Supporting the focus on safety is last year’s unfortunate death of a racing entrant during a pre-race practice day.

HeartSine Technologies will provide basic life support training including CPR and medical instruction on defibrillator usage to all race officials prior to the start of the races. In addition, HeartSine will hold an AED panel discussion on Jan. 19 at the race hospitality tent and is open to all interested sailors and industry members
