Viking Yachts receives civic award

NEW GRETNA, N.J. – The Press of Atlantic City has notified the Viking Yacht Co. that it is the recipient of its Bailey Award for 2004, recognizing civic-minded businesses and how their contributions affect the lives of its neighbors, the boat builder reported in a recent statement.

The award was established by The Press in 1995 and named after the character George Bailey, played by actor Jimmy Stewart in Frank Capra’s classic film “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Among Viking’s contributions noted by The Press, which resulted in Viking receiving the award, were the company’s yearly sponsorship of the Great Bay Regional EMS; a December toy drive; free flu shots for elderly local residents; on-the-job training for surrounding vocational and technical schools and providing small-craft boatbuilding kits used at the Tuckerton Seaport for the Father-Child Boatbuilding program held each year.

“We are humbled to receive the Bailey Award,” said Peter Frederiksen, Viking’s director of communications. “We are proud of our community and glad that we are able to help not just during the holiday season, but year round as well.”
