IYT warns of megayacht crew shortage

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There is a world shortage of students who wish to work in the professional megayacht industry, International Yachtmaster Training – a provider of professional yacht crew training designed specifically for the industry – said in a release today.

In 2005, there are 14 miles of new yachts (over 80 feet or 24 meters) under construction in 25 different countries throughout the world, and it is estimated that 3,000 new crew will be required to fill these positions throughout the year, IYT said.

Positions are available for deckhands, bosuns, mates, captains, engineers, stewardesses and chefs.
