Defender’s 2004 sales set new records

WATERFORD, Conn. – Marine outfitter and supplier Defender Industries reported record sales in 2004, posting a same-store sales increase of 13 percent for the year, the company said in a recent release.

Defender started the year with the largest first quarter in its 67-year history and recorded the highest sales month ever along the way.

“This marks the third year in a row Defender has achieved double-digit sales gains,” Al Knupp, executive director, said. “2004 was particularly challenging for us, with significant resources focused on implementing upgraded systems throughout the company. Our goal for 2005 is to continue on our charted course of carefully controlled growth and continuous incremental improvement. It should be another great year for Defender and hopefully our whole industry.”

Defender Vice President Stephan Lance said record sales of inflatable boats and outboard motors posted the largest gains in both unit volume and dollars, with over 2,300 boats and motors sold in 2004.

“Although Defender’s formula for success seems simple, achieving and sustaining it are not,” Lance said. “This was our best and most successful year ever.”
