Wakeboard industry donates money for children

SAN DIEGO – An online auction conducted by several wakesports companies raised nearly $4,000 for the United States Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program, WakeWorld said in a recent press release.

Brian Strand of Liquid Trends hatched a plan with David Williams at WakeWorld to enlist the help of wakesports companies by asking them to donate packages of gear to be sold to WakeWorld readers via online auction.

The response was so overwhelming that the promotion was extended by an extra week to make room for all the generous donations. Although it was requested that all the packages have a retail value of at least $250, Roswell Wake-Air, Kicker and Liquid Trends pitched in at least $1,000 worth of equipment each.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to do something for those that are less fortunate,” said WakeWorld Editor David Williams. “This was the perfect way to accomplish that and help our readers to get some Christmas shopping bargains at the same time. On top of it all, it gives our industry yet another opportunity to put out a positive vibe.”

When all was said and done, the proceeds generated from the auctions added up to nearly $4,000. That money was then donated to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in the form of a truckload of new toys, including four BMX bikes, and a check for over $3,000.

“It was a real joy to have the opportunity to deliver these toys and a check to the Marine Corps,” exclaimed Williams. “The woman in charge almost cried and gave me a big hug. She just couldn’t thank everybody involved enough.”

Other package donors included Trick Boardz, O’Brien, Isler Photo, CWB, MasterCraft, Mako Industries, Liberation, Fresh Air Exhaust, Monster Tower, Got River?, Discount Wake, Straight Line, Ten-80 and Alliance.

Because of the great success of this benefit, the WakeWorld Toys For Tots auction will become an annual event. For information on next year’s auction or details on how your company can get involved, contact David Williams at gobig@wakeworld.com or 619-204-2885.
