ABYC program gains another sponsor

EDGEWATER, Md. – Fiber Glass Industries has signed on as the newest sponsor for the American Boat & Yacht Council’s Composite Boat Builder Certification program, ABYC said in a release today.

In conjunction with Structural Composites, Inc., and support from sponsors such as FGI, ABYC has developed the CBBC course, designed to provide a thorough understanding of marine composite construction for those who want more advanced training, and an entry-level laminator course, designed to give students a basic foundation and understanding of the strict guidelines required of workers when building a composite boat.

Paul Lierheimer, president of FGI, said his company was excited to partner with Structural Composites in support of ABYC’s training efforts.

“The materials and information provided in these courses are excellent, and we feel this training is an important component driving the growth of the composites industry,” Lierheimer said.

“We would like to thank FGI, as well as our other CBBC sponsors for their support of this program,” Bonnie Barsa, ABYC’s education director, said. “We have held seven composites classes in the past year and the sponsorship funds provided by FGI will help us in the development of future composites courses.”
