Viking Yacht Co. donates flu vaccine

NEW GRETNA, N.J. – The Viking Yacht Co. recently donated 50 doses of flu vaccine to elderly residents of Bass River Township, New Gretna and the Great Bay Regional Volunteer EMS, the company said in a release yesterday.

Viking Yacht has offered the vaccine free to its 1,300 employees and eligible family members in the past, but a nationwide shortage of the influenza vaccine, caused by laboratory production problems, restricted inoculations by prioritizing their use to high-risk individuals.

“Viking is deeply rooted in our local community and we wanted to help out as best we can in this situation,” said Peter Frederiksen, director of communications. “After we distributed the influenza vaccine to the Viking employees who met the inoculation criteria as ordered by the CDC, we offered our remaining vaccine free to area residents.”

Additional vaccine may be made available to qualified residents of nearby Tuckerton as long as the supply lasts.
