USCG Auxiliary warns against out-of-date charts

WASHINGTON – The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has issued a warning to the boating public, saying it has received several reports that retail chart sellers have been selling out-of-date nautical charts to the boating public.

The USCG Auxiliary said in a statement today that NOAA, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, is charged with producing nautical charts. Boaters should stop by its Web site – http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/mcd/dole.htm – and check on the latest edition of that chart before purchasing any nautical chart.

Each week, the United States Coast Guard’s Navigation Center (www.navcen.uscg.mil) issues nine regional Local Notices to Mariners. These notices detail specific changes in the waters within the region.
