HYC opens satellite base in Carriacou

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands – While working toward the full recovery of its base at True Blue Bay Marina in Grenada, which was damaged during the passage of Hurricane Ivan, Horizon Yacht Charters will open a satellite base in Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou on Nov. 1, the company said in a release yesterday.

The new base will provide service through the end of the 2005 season.

The passage of Hurricane Ivan hit the island of Grenada hard, but ample warning enabled the HYC team to effectively hurricanize its charter fleet and base.

“We undertook all necessary precautions to ensure that the charter fleet was securely hurricanized and thankfully, this preparation meant that the majority of our fleet survived the battering that affected the island,” said James Pascall, director of Horizon Yacht Charters (Grenada). “We are offering clients the option of starting their Grenadines sail from the picturesque sister island of Carriacou.

Pascall said Carriacou is a two-hour sail from Union Island, but said the company would also continue to offer charter starts and finishes at its primary base at True Blue Bay Resort & Marina in Grenada.

“We are able to honor the charters that are booked for the coming season and want to assure all future guests that we will still be offering the same high level of service, quality yachts and attention to detail that is the Horizon signature,” James said.
