Industry education summit is named

EDGEWATER, Md., CHICAGO and BROOKLIN, Maine – The American Boat & Yacht Council, National Marine Manufacturers Association and Professional BoatBuilder magazine have released the official name of the 2005 marine industry educational summit.

Those organizations, which are co-producers of the event, have named the upcoming gathering the Conference On Marine Industry Technical Training, according to a press release yesterday. COMITT will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Feb. 3-5, 2005.

“COMITT was chosen as the most appropriate name for the summit to recognize the commitment segments of the marine industry have to make toward improving the current state of technical education and training within the marine industry in order to attract, recruit and retain a highly proficient and effective workforce,” said Carl Cramer, publisher of PBB and co-director of IBEX.

The first two days of COMITT will feature a forum of information exchange – one that will include discussions on different strategies and on uniting the industry’s education and training efforts. As an industry, the forum will serve to reinforce the importance of workforce professional development, said the three groups. The last day will be dedicated to providing, education program participants the opportunity to choose from a selection of on-site tours of industry-related facilities.

“The name is perfect,” said Thom Dammrich NMMA president. “To reach higher levels of performance and higher levels of customer satisfaction, we need industry and educators to commit to providing the right training to the right people at the right time. Therefore, I am asking for broad industry support and participation.”

Participants can register online at www.abycinc.org, or have a conference brochure mailed to them by contacting Bonnie Barsa, ABYC education director at (410) 956-1050, ext. 31 or bbarsa@abycinc.org.
