Resin and gelcoat price increases continue

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. & RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Marine materials manufacturers and suppliers AOC and Reichhold plan another round of price increases on resins and gel coats this October, the companies said in separate releases today.

AOC will raise its prices by a minimum of $0.05 per pound on all resins and gel coats in the U.S. and Canada shipped on or after Oct. 4, in addition to the increase effective Sept. 6, the company said.

Reichhold said its increase will be $0.06 per pound on all unsaturated polyester resins sold in the U.S. and Canada shipped on or after Oct.15, and is in addition to the increase that took effect Sept. 6.

Both companies cited high costs for crude oil, natural gas, and their derivatives as the reason for their increases.

AOC also said that because of the raw material increases and the tightness of raw material supply, compounded by accelerated consumption, it is changing its order entry cycle to a firm 14 days from the current 10 days.

“With the inability to absorb higher costs while continuing to invest in better performing and environmentally friendly products, selling prices must reflect current conditions,” AOC said. “We wish to acknowledge our customers and their support for understanding these difficult times.”

Reichhold North American Director of Composites Product Management Bill Schramm said 2004 has been an unprecedented year for the pricing of polyesters raw materials.
