Boater’s World sponsors charity fishing tournament

BELTSVILLE, Md. – Boater’s World Marine Centers will be the title sponsor of the upcoming the American Cancer Society’s “Tackle Cancer” Bluefish and Striped Bass Fishing Tournament, the retailer said in a press release today.

The tournament will take place in Long Island, N.Y. Sept. 18 and the rewards dinner will be held on Sept. 22. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society for research, education, advocacy, and patient and family services.

“We are extremely honored to be working with the American Cancer Society and The Fishing Line to launch the first annual ‘Tackle Cancer’ Bluefish and Striped Bass Fishing Tournament,” said Boater’s World Vice President Jay Jolly. “It should be a great day of fishing with the proceeds going to help the fight against cancer.”

Participants can register at Boater’s World stores along with other bait and tackle shops on Long Island. Boats may depart from any port on Long Island, making it an island-wide tournament.

There will be 10 winners each in two categories: largest bluefish and largest bass, and prizes include money and Boater’s World gift certificates. The awards dinner will be held at Capt. Bill’s in Bayshore, N.Y.
