NMMA selects West Marine for Hammond Leadership Award

CHICAGO – The National Marine Manufacturers Association has honored West Marine with its Robert Hammond Leadership Award, the association said in a release yesterday.

NMMA’s Accessory Manufacturers Division is recognizing West Marine for the positive impact its leadership has had on the marine industry and the marine aftermarket in particular, according to the association.

“West Marine has been a leader in working with accessory manufacturers in NMMA to improve supply chain efficiencies in the marine industry that not only eliminate waste in the supply chain but help to get more product to more boating consumers more cost effectively,” said NMMA president Thom Dammrich.

“West Marine has been a leader in the AMD’s Mutual Efficiency Forum, in developing, adopting and promoting NMMA marine industry supply chain standards for the marine aftermarket, and has been the leader in promoting good retail practices,” AMD chair George Bellwoar said. “Their support of the Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show has also been important to the success of this exclusive aftermarket event.”

The Robert Hammond Industry Leadership Award was established to recognize exemplary leadership in the marine industry, and is endowed by Bob Hammond, founder of Glastron Boat Co. The award is intended to recognize a characteristic that is in the highest demand, but often in short supply: leadership for the benefit of the whole industry, distinct from leadership exercised to build one’s own company.

“There is no question that the marine aftermarket industry is better today and the boating consumer is better served because of West Marine’s leadership in driving positive changes in the practices of the aftermarket supply chain,” said Bellwoar, who presented the award to West Marine’s Ken Corwin.
