N.J. Sea Grant to host dredged material summit
SANDY HOOK, N.J. – The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium’s New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Program will be hosting a summit to educate government officials and industry organizations on the importance of maintenance dredging and the beneficial uses of dredged material, the NJMSC said in a release yesterday.
The one-day summit will be held Oct. 6 at the Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood, N.J.
“This summit provides a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of maintaining water depth in our back bay channels and how the dredged material can be used for beneficial purposes,” said Michael Danko, a N.J. Sea Grant Extension Program agent.
Dredged material management is often hampered due to the negative association people have with the sediment, the group said. However, dredged material can be used in flood control projects, state development, redevelopment, enhancement, environmental, transportation, brownfield, landfill closure/cap, and other beneficial projects.
The NJ Sea Grant/ NJDOT summit is open to all coastal legislators, mayors, county and municipal officials, the marine trades industry, prospective users of dredged materials, academia, environmental organizations and other appropriate organizations.
