Interlux donates 400 gallons of marine paint to ASTA

UNION, NJ – Interlux, in recognition of the American Sail Training Association’s (ASTA) mission to keep the tall ships and historic yachts of the world in service for today’s youth, has donated over 400 gallons of yacht enamel and antifouling bottom paint to the organization, it reported in a recent statement. This is the largest paint donation in the company’s history.

“The timing for this wonderful donation could not be better,” said Peter A. Mello, executive director of ASTA. “We will have 16 of our ships in Newport from July 16 to 19. With the help of Interlux we will be able to distribute their paint to the majority of the ships participating in this summer’s Tall Ships event. Any product that is left over ASTA will be able to use for fund raising to benefit Tall Ships Rhode Island 2004.”

The paint will be delivered to ASTA in Newport prior to the arrival of the Tall Ships on July 16. Mello said that with the co-operation of Newport Shipyard, the ships would be able to pick up their allotments during the 4-day event.
