Island Packet Yachts participated in D-Day commemoration

LARGO, Fla. – Five Island Packet Yachts sailed from the English Coast to France on June 3 to participate in the 60th Anniversary D-Day commemoration, the company said in a recent release.

Moored in Vieux Basin in Honfluer, France, and with American and British flags flying, the yachts hosted many visitors aboard during the nearly weeklong itinerary of events – including many veterans visiting the nearby sites of Omaha Beach, Caen and Arromaches, the company reported.

“We were moved to tears as we watched the veterans march in formation to the memorial services, jackets weighed down with campaign medals, but with berets and caps still worn jauntily and with immense pride,“ said Bob Harris, Commodore of the Island Packet Owner’s Association (UK). “Having the Queen nearby was an added bonus to this historic weekend.”

The group returned to England on Wednesday in time to join five more Island Packets for the annual owner’s rendezvous in Cowes, England over the following weekend, according to the release.
