MITAGS releases details of September courses

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, Md. – The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies has released details of its September 2004 Master, Mate and Operator U.S. Coast Guard Certified course. The school plans to offer the certified courses three times or more each year, according to a statement it issued this morning.

Certification for the Operator of Undisputed Passenger Vessel is an eight-day, six-Passengers-for-Hire license program, which includes a thorough review of all subject areas on the USCG exam, general deck and safety, general navigation, the Rules of the Road, chart navigation, and tow and sail addendum, with all testing done at MITAGS, the school said.

Certification for the Master 100 GRT and the Master/Mate 200 GRT Licenses are separate certified three-day Upgrade Programs. These programs emphasize a thorough review of all subject areas on the USCG exam, training in MITAGS classrooms and labs, training in effective Survival at Sea techniques, Bridge Watchkeeping, Master’s Leadership and a review of Marine Safety Regulations, including SOLAS and MARPOL. All testing is done at MITAGS, according to the release.

Candidates who complete the MITAGS Master, Mate and Operator course(s) can obtain a Master’s license and may operate offshore supply vessels, ferry vessels, fishing vessels, high speed commuter craft, dive and fishing charter vessels, sail and charter operations, and tug and tow vessels (tow assistance only).
