N.C. boat builders establish pre-employment training program.

NAGS HEAD, N.C. – Several boat builders in northeastern North Carolina, including Regulator Marine and Albemarle Sportfishing Boats, Inc., have teamed up with College of The Albemarle to offer a pre-employment training program for potential employees, a story in today’s Outer Banks Sentinel newspaper reported.

Industry standardized certification training will also be offered in the near future, enabling existing employees to earn additional certifications related to the boat building industry, such as American Boat Yacht Council Laminator certification, according to the story.

“Having (the college) handle more of the basic industry training makes sense for us,” said Cheryl Williams of Regulator Marine. “They’re in the business of education while we’re in the business of manufacturing sporting boats. Streamlining the training process allows us to focus on production.”

The pre-employment training program is scheduled to begin sometime this June and will provide interested applicants the opportunity to learn more about jobs available in the industry and skills necessary, according to the Sentinel.
