World Publications acquires four new titles
WINTER PARK, Fla. – World Publications has acquired four more titles to add to its growing list of specialty publications, purchasing Islands, Spa and Resorts & Great Hotels magazines from Islands Publishing, World said in a release yesterday.
World Publications will also gain ownership of Islands’ companion title, Islands Weddings & Honeymoons, along with the magazines’ related Web sites, according to the company.
The acquisitions are part of World Publications’ ongoing strategy to expand its involvement in the boating, travel, food and wine markets. The company already owns 15 other magazines, and CEO Terry Snow has been quoted as saying he would like to double the size of his business in the next five years.
World Publications purchased UsedBoats.com and several other boating Web sites, including NewBoats.com and Yachtbroker.com, in late March and Trawler World magazine last December.
“We are very excited about the acquisition of these premium brands,” Snow said of the company’s latest buys. “They fit perfectly into our existing portfolio of magazines that serve readers’ passions. They strengthen our position in the travel and leisure market.”
“We now have a stable of magazines and related Web sites that allows us to provide an even greater range of services to our clients,” said Dave Freygang, who will assume the new role of group publisher of the travel division at World, adding to his present duties as group publisher of the water-sports titles. “The integrated packages that our sales team will now be able to offer can match or exceed those of anyone in the market.”
World Publications – which also owns Boating Life, Sailing World, Cruising World, Sport Fishing and Caribbean Travel & Life magazines, among other special-interest titles – employs more than 275 people, with headquarters in Winter Park, Fla., and offices in New York and Rhode Island.
