Offshore Sailing School to host 40th anniversary reunion

FORT MYERS, Fla. – To celebrate 40 years of continuous operation, Offshore Sailing School (OSS) owners Steve and Doris Colgate will host a weekend reunion at South Seas Resort on Captiva Island, Fla. this October, filled with sailing, outdoor events, seminars and parties, OSS reported in a recent press release.

“Anyone who has taken a course, worked for or is still working for Offshore, coached our special programs, or just been a great supporter and friend is invited,” OSS founder Steve Colgate said. “We have a lot to celebrate, over 100,000 graduates and an industry and lifestyle that has shaped our lives and those of so many others.”

Celebrity sailors Bernadette and Douglas Bernon and Bill Pinkney will keynote breakfast gatherings and hold workshops. The weekend events include regattas on the school’s fleet of Colgate 26’s, day-cruises with alumni instructors and graduates and Eco-tours by kayak, bicycle or car through Sanibel’s Ding Darling Sanctuary. Anyone who would like to sail in and stay on their own boat is encouraged to do so, the OSS reported.

More than 50 past instructors at the school plan to attend, according to Steve Colgate.

A silent auction to benefit the American Heart Association will be held during Saturday night’s grand finale dinner.

Official invitations will be sent in July, and the Colgates said all those who think they might not be on the list should contact them right away.
