Protective Insurance broadens marine coverage

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Insurance-provider Protective has upgraded its marine service plan to provide broader coverage for consumers purchasing new and pre-owned boats, the company reported in a recent release.

The changes affect the FPC Premium Marine Protection service contract plan, which is part of the Protective Marine Group’s Asset Protection Division.

New watercraft coverage term options have been extended from six to eight years, and for pre-owned watercraft, extended model year eligibility has gone from current and seven previous model years to current and ten previous model years. Enhanced pre-owned coverage terms are now one-, two- or three-year terms for boats that are current and ten previous model years.

“These benefits have been developed to offer consumers more value when buying a new or pre-owned boat,” said Christopher Bernish, Protective’s Vice President of FPC Dealer Sales, in the release.

Two new accessory programs, “Sailor’s Choice” for the sailboat market and “Pontoon PAC” for the pontoon market, have been added for 2009. Also available is a new tire and wheel program for watercraft trailers and tow vehicles. Previously no tire and wheel program was available.

“Having a tire and wheel program gives us broader coverage choices for consumers. It offers the complete package along with an extended service plan,” said Bernish.
