TOKYO – While Yamaha Motor’s consolidated net sales for the third quarter, ending September 30, 2006, rose 17.4 percent when compared to the previous third quarter, the company reported that its outboard motor sales in the United States decreased.
The company’s marine product sales increased overall by 8.2 percent from the previous third quarter, to 202.5 billion yen, which the company attributed to expanded sales for outboard motors in Europe and for personal watercraft, coupled with the effect of the weaker yen.
The decline in U.S. outboard sales was attributed to “stagnant demand resulting from crude oil price rises, an economic slowdown and other negative factors.” Overall operating income climbed 5.8 percent to 20.4 billion yen.
