Defender’s investments paying off

WATERFORD, Conn. – Defender Industries’ 2006 year-to-date sales have increased 27.1 percent over the same period in 2005, the company reported in a statement late last week. February sales were up 25.5 percent.

“Inflatable boats and outboard motors sales increased 48 percent in January and February,” said Defender V.P. Stephan Lance. “In fact, all sales channels and most product categories posted significant gains. 2006 is already shaping up to be another record year for Defender.”

The boating supplies provider is working to process its orders faster, more accurately and more efficiently, according to Terry Hart, Defender’s fulfillment director.

“We recognize that increasing customer expectations are being driven by competitors both in and outside the marine industry,” Executive Director Al Knupp said. “You can’t be good at just a few things any more – and low prices alone don’t work for the long haul. You’ve got to get almost everything right, and then continue to improve beyond that to achieve sustained success.”

Knupp added that the company is making continued investments in staff, training, systems, processes, and inventory, which “are being validated by our expanding customer base of experienced boaters every day.”
