Defender posts record year

WATERFORD, Conn. – Recent results have helped Defender Industries to the best year in its history, the company reported in a release earlier this week.

Defender said same-store sales increased 18.7 percent in December and 17.4 percent in the fourth quarter, making 2005 the best in its 67-year history.

“Our record 2005 results cap the fourth consecutive year of significant growth,” said Al Knupp, executive director. Defender’s sales increased nearly 40 percent during this period.

“Utilizing a new integrated enterprise system to further streamline order processing, fulfillment and other functional areas, the Defender crew continued to increase sales and improve order fill rates without significantly increasing our inventory levels.”

Knupp said he believes the company can be even more successful in 2006, “regardless of what happens in the economy.”

Defender Vice President Stephan Lance said most of Defender’s 20 major product categories posted increases in 2005, with inflatable boats and outboard engines, electronics, maintenance, electrical and clothing leading the way.
