IDS acquires Mainstar Computer Systems, creates European division

RALIEGH, N.C. – Integrated Dealer Systems (IDS), a provider of dealer and marina management systems, has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Mainstar Computer Systems, Ltd., a privately held European-based marina automation company, according to an IDS release yesterday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but IDS President Steve Hawkins said the acquisition would allow his company to “extend its global range.”

“Acquiring Mainstar will allow IDS to make a game-changing move within the global marine retailing marketplace by adding a unique marina and RV park automation solution to its portfolio, as well as forming a new global business unit to expand our presence in Europe,” Hawkins said. “None of our competitors can match the combination of technology, marine retailing experience and global capabilities that will be delivered by the combination of IDS and Mainstar.”

The Mainstar platform utilizes the electrical power grid as a network for delivering and controlling utilities, and the technology can be integrated into the existing IDS product line or can be used as a standalone product, IDS reported.

“This is great news for our European end users, employees and distributors not to mention the potential U.S. and Canadian markets that currently do not have this level of automation,” said Barry De Lobel, managing director of Mainstar. “Mainstar has grown and prospered through a strategy of building marina automation solutions utilizing powerful technology not being used by anyone else in our industry.”
