Author takes top boat writing honors for second time
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The true story of a rescue attempt on Lake Superior won its author, Marlin Bree, this year’s top writing honors from Boating Writer’s International, the organization said in a statement.
Bree was presented with the West Marine Writer’s Award during the BWI membership meeting at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. The award comes with $5,000 and a crystal trophy.
The winning story, “The Old Man and the Inland Sea,” appeared in the January/February 2007 issue of The Ensign and is currently available at www.marlinbree.com. The tale recounts a 50-year-old event and focuses on an old man who battles the elements in an attempt to rescue his fishing partner.
This marks the second time Bree, a St. Paul, Minn., native and freelance writer, has earned BWI’s top honors, having also won in 2004.
