ABYC elects new board

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – American Boat and Yacht Council members selected new officers, new board members and ABYC Foundation board directors, the association said in a press release yesterday. Representing key segments of the marine industry, ABYC’s board provides guidance in furthering ABYC’s mission of standards and education.

Chair of the Board
Bill Drake is vice president of engineering at Marinco-AFI and has been with Marinco since 1988. In addition to serving of the executive committee, Drake is a member of ABYC’s electrical project technical committee and the nominating committee. He is also a speaker at ABYC’s Electrical Systems in Boats seminar. Drake is a member of the National Electrical Code Technical Correlating Committee, past member of the National Electrical Code, Code Panel 5 and 17, member and past chairman of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, Wiring Device Section’s technical committee, and member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.

Vice Chair of the Board
Gerry Douglas is vice president and a principal of Catalina Yachts and has been employed with Catalina since 1976. Douglas most recently served as treasurer for ABYC and chair of the business and financial planning committee. He also serves on the executive committee, nominating committee and is on the technical information project technical committee. Douglas is also a member of the Industrial Designers Society of America and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

Technical Chair of the Board
Dave Marlow is the director of product integrity for the Brunswick Boat Group. He is a past chair of the ABYC board of directors and is a current member of the board’s executive committee and nominating committee, as well as chair of the technical board and a project technical committee member. He currently serves as a presidential-appointed member of the U.S. Coast Guard’s National Boating Safety Advisory Council. Marlow is a member of the Recreational Craft Sectoral Group for the development of ISO standards, the Boat Owner’s Association of the United States, Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and a member of the board of directors for the International Marine Certification Institute. He is a past Lippman Award recipient and a contributing member to ABYC’s TC 188 technical advisory group.

Treasurer
Dan Gribble is the president of Boatswain’s Locker and a lifelong marine enthusiast who has raced sailboats his entire life. Gribble has an MBA from UC Irvine. When he assumed ownership of the family business, he changed the focus of the company to marine propulsion wholesale distribution and service.

The ABYC Foundation also recently added two new board members. They will serve two-year terms. Dan Dickinson is chairman and CEO of G.A.S. Capital, Inc. Michael Joyce is chairman and CEO of Hargrave Custom Yachts.
