Marine Mover – CMMA chairman resigns, takes on new industry role

OAKVILLE, Ontario – Randy Caruana, a director and chairman of the Canadian Marine Manufacturers Association board of directors, has submitted his resignation from the CMMA board after being in the position for four years, according to a statement from the organization Wednesday.

Caruana’s decision comes as a result of his promotion within Mercury Marine, where he has worked since April 2002. He was named director of large outboard product effective August 1 and will be based in Fond du lac, Wis., Caruana told the CMMA in a written statement.

“Randy was an excellent chair of CMMA,” said Chris Goulder, past CMMA chairman. “He encouraged discussion amongst the directors and he worked hard to achieve consensus in many areas. Although we are fierce competitors, I personally enjoyed working with Randy and I wish him the best in his new position.”

Caruana was first appointed to the CMMA board in January 1998 while working for Yamaha Motor Canada. He has remained a member of the board since that time and in January 2005, was re-appointed to another two-year term. For the past four years, Caruana has served as chairman of the board of directors, as well as on the Discover Boating, financial and government relations committees and the CMMA executive committee.

“This has been both an exciting and difficult time for me,” Caruana said. “Coming to grasps with leaving Canada and the industry is a tough decision but on a long term base, this decision is best for both myself and my family.”

“We are very thankful for Randy’s dedication to CMMA over the many years,” said Sandy Currie, CMMA executive director. “With his assistance, CMMA has made great strides – stats, Discover Boating and GR improvements are just a few. His support, encouragement and assistance over the years has been tremendous and we will miss working closely with him.”
