Marine Movers – Cruising World expands editorial staff
NEWPORT, R.I. – Cruising World, a monthly magazine published by World Publications, has undergone three major staff moves, the addition of two new members to its editorial staff and the promotion of a longtime editor, it reported in a recent statement.
David W. Shaw and Dieter Loibner join Cruising World as associate editors, and Jeremy McGeary has been promoted from associate editor to senior editor.
McGeary began his career in the 1970s working in the Caribbean charter fleet, then served as a yacht designer for several companies. His byline first appeared in Cruising World in 1978, according to the magazine. He became a fixture of the magazine with the publication of the Sailor’s Sourcebook, and he was promoted to associate editor in 1997. In addition to his feature-writing assignments, McGeary will now head the magazine’s Hands-On Sailor technical section, covering navigation, seamanship, auxiliaries, systems and maintenance.
Shaw has written several works of narrative nonfiction including Flying Cloud, The Sea Shall Embrace Them, Sea Wolf of the Confederacy and America’s Victory, an onboard account of the first America’s Cup race in 1851.
With a Ph.D. in journalism, Loibner is Cruising World’s new boat-review editor and will help run the annual Boat of the Year contest. Loibner has written for sailing publications all over the world, covering nearly ever facet of the yachting scene: cruising, racing, boat tests, restoration, the America’s Cup and the Olympic Games, according to the magazine. He comes to the Cruising World team from West Marine, where he wrote the West Advisors for the company’s ubiquitous catalogs.
