Executive Spotlight – Developing standards
We feel that the lack of a Uniform Technology Exchange is really causing significant inefficiencies in our industry.
Some years ago the automobile industry got the manufacturers, dealers and dealer management system vendors together to come up with a standard by which these entities would exchange electronic data. In our industry there are no such standards. Most manufacturers are developing tools so their dealers can transact business online. However dealers carrying multiple brands from different OEMs must utilize a different system for each. In addition, the DMS vendors are being asked to develop interfaces for each OEM system.
We propose that a consortium be formed that would bring the largest players in the industry together to come up with a set of XML based standards.
