Long Beach Marine Bureau superintendent dies
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach Marine Bureau Superintendent Doug Parsons passed away on Jan. 6, according to a release this morning.
Parsons had been a guiding force at the Long Beach Marine Bureau for the last decade, and had been involved in recreational boating, marina management and consulting for many years before his service with the City of Long Beach.
He was instrumental in preparing for the upcoming renovations of the Downtown Shoreline Marina in the heart of downtown Long Beach as well as the Alamitos Bay Marinas.
Parsons had been a champion of the boating industry throughout his career and his service in professional associations such as California Association of Harbor Masters & Port Captains and International Marine Institute.
In 2003, The CAHM&PC bestowed their most coveted award, “The Harbor Master of the Year Award” on Parsons after serving as the association’s president for an unprecedented two consecutive terms. He was recognized for his proactive work with the California Legislature, the State Department of Boating and Waterways, and for continually striving to improve California’s boating community and facilities.
Parsons is survived by his daughter Carrie and son-in-law Jim.
