High school class of 2025 on track to be most diverse ever

As we have discussed previously, the demographics in the United States are steadily changing: Only 59 percent of Millennials are white and the younger generations only continue to become more diverse.

This was recently highlighted even further in a recent study from the Pew Research Center. According to the study’s findings, the graduating high school class of 2025 (currently in third grade) will be both the largest and most ethnically diverse class the nation has ever seen.

The study asserts that the change will be driven by second-generation immigrants of Hispanics and Asians, and that young Hispanics will likely make up a larger share of high school graduates a decade from now.

Whether or not any of the members of that graduating class – regardless of ethnicity – will become college students is up for debate, particularly with skyrocketing tuition costs. However, as we all know, you don’t have to have a college degree to be a boat owner – you just have to love the water.

As these students grow up, become adults and start gaining their own income, we will need to be sure boating stays on their radar. Youth programs that reach out to all communities to foster a love for boating now will help drive adulthood participation.
