OMOA, marina recognized

The Ontario Marine Operators Association (OMOA) and Monto Reno Marina, a member of the organization were each honored recently with an award presented by the Canadian Safe Boating Council.

OMOA was recognized with the Best Environmental Campaign award for meeting its target of Eco-Rating 150 marinas/yacht clubs by the end of 2003.

“This voluntary program by marinas, yacht clubs and their boaters is making a true difference in preserving the quality of Ontario’s recreational lakes and rivers,” said MC Ted Rankin, when making the presentation. “Not content to rest on their laurels, they have set a new goal of Eco-Rating 150 more facilities over the next three years.”

Mont Reno received the Green Marina award. As one of the first marinas to enroll in OMOA’s Clean Marine Eco-Rating, it has adopted the improvements suggested in the Eco-Rating report and has applied for a re-audit to improve its rating, according to the release. Additionally, the release said, its staff and management are also heavily involved with the Lake Simcoe Regional Conservation Authority, in their efforts to improve the water quality of the lake and return the cold water fishery to what is once was.
