1. VIDEO: Man tries to steal 80-foot Hatteras, sinks it instead

A man allegedly attempted to steal an 80-foot Hatteras last weekend from the Miami Beach Marina, but ended up partially sinking the vessel while trying to make his getaway, CBS Miami reported.

While trying to open water, the man apparently crashed into several other boats. When a Miami Fire Rescue boat arrived, the man jumped overboard and swam away. A police dive team and a Coast Guard crew were unable to find him, the station said.

2. RFA raises concerns over marine sanctuaries

Following the creation of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, 130 miles off the southeast coast of Cape Cod, the Recreational Fishing Alliance is concerned over a push for more marine monuments.

According to the RFA, several popular fishing areas, including the Hudson, Wilmington and Baltimore canyons, have been nominated through the the National Marine Sanctuaries Act. RFA is raising concerns that fishing will no longer be allowed in these areas if they are created as sanctuaries.

“Anyone who fishes offshore, runs an offshore tournament, sells or manufactures offshore fishing gear, boats or equipment should be extremely concerned about this organized crusade to create marine sanctuaries off the Atlantic coast,” RFA said in a statement.

3. NMMA’s Libby Yranski appointed to Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force

Libby Yranski, manager, State Government Relations for the NMMA, has been appointed by the White House Federal Advisory Committee Act Liaison to serve on the Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Task Force.  NMMA is a new Ex-officio member of the ANS Task Force, an intergovernmental organization dedicated to preventing and controlling aquatic nuisance species, and implementing the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act (NANPCA) of 1990.
