1. Legendary Marine flag mural sets Guinness record

The 3.83-acre flag mural that tops Legendary Marine’s boat storage facility in Destin, Fla., has been recognized as the largest flag mural in the world by Guinness World Records.

The mural was painted by marine artist Wyland over a four-month period and completed in April. Wyland had originally painted a smaller flag mural on the facility in 2001, but Legendary and the artist decided to enlarge the painting when it was time to restore it. The record was confirmed by Guinness in July.

2. Deadline near for NMMA Hall of Fame

Nominations for the NMMA Hall of Fame are due August 12. Nominees must have made a substantial and lasting impact on the industry or their particular segment, be known in the industry and beyond personal or professional reproach, must have been or continue to be a member and supporter of NMMA and be actively involved in the marine industry for a minimum of 10 years.

3. Manatee boat deaths at record pace in Florida

Increased boating traffic is leading to more deaths of manatees in Florida, state officials said last week.

As of July 22, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported 71 manatees killed by boats, ahead of the 58 manatees killed by boats by mid-July 2009, when a record 97 manatees were killed, Florida Today reported.

4. MarineMax upgraded by analyst

After a strong earnings report last week, MarineMax’s stock has been upgraded from a “Hold” to a “Buy” by Zacks Investment Research.
