1. Miami named best city for boaters

Two Florida cities are the best ones for boating in the United States, according to real estate site Redfin.

Miami and Tampa were Nos. 1 and 2 on the site’s list of the 10 Best Cities for Boaters. They were followed by Minneapolis, Virginia Beach, Providence, Long Island, Annapolis, Chicago, Seattle and Austin.

The list was determined by determining the amount of waterfront property, prices of those waterfront homes, weather, boat registrations and more.

2. Florida boating deaths on track for record high

Heading into the Labor Day weekend, there were 43 confirmed boating deaths in Florida, nearing a record high, officials there said.

There were 58 deaths in 2013 and 50 in 2012. The 2014 number is expected to rise because several deaths are still under investigation.

3. Consumer sentiment up for August

The final August reading for the Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index came in at 82.5, up from the preliminary reading of 79.2, and up from 81.8 in July.
