1. New York marinas hope for 2014 Sandy recovery
After a limited 2013 hampered by Hurricane Sandy, marinas on New York’s Staten Island are banking on a return to full strength this year. Many marinas, including the Nichols Great Kills Park Marina still have to be rebuilt, though others are ready to go, local owners say.
2. Mexican authorities still holding foreign boats
More than half the foreign boats, many from U.S. and Canada, seized by Mexican authorities last year are still being held, according to a recent update.
Mexican tax officials impounded the boats in November for allegedly not having proper paperwork and permits, but many of the owners have challenged that claim. Of the 337 boats seized, more than 190 are still being held.
3. California could regulate bottom paint
A new report from California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation moves the state closer to regulating copper-based bottom paint, the National Marine Manufacturers Association reports.
