Social Media Monday: Should I blog?
Welcome to this week’s Social Media Monday, where we answer your social media questions.
You can submit questions via the comments below or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
With the extra time it takes to blog, does it make sense to have a blog or should we just focus on social media?
Blogging should be an important part of your social media and digital marketing strategy. It serves a few purposes:
- Creating content – One of the challenges with social media is finding good info to put out there on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Crafting a blog where you share insights about trends, talk about upcoming events or just simply comment on the local weather conditions can provide valuable content to feed the social media beast
- SEO – Blogs are a great driver of search engine traffic. Unlike on social media sites, the information you post there is going to show up on Google and drive traffic directly to you. It’s a great way to make sure you constantly have new content on your website.
- Aggregation – Your blog can be a great way to collect everything you’re doing on social media. Use the links there to drive traffic back to your Facebook page and vice versa.
As for the time commitment, writing a good blog post will take more time than creating a Tweet, but unlike social media, you can get away with doing it a lot less often. It can be well worth it in the increased exposure.
Even if you only find time to blog once a week, it’s better than nothing. If you’re challenged in coming up with topics, approach it the same way you should be approaching social media: think of the questions your customers are asking and answer them.
