American Suzuki Corp. will cease the sale of its automobiles in the United States – a move that could benefit its other stateside operations, including its marine outboard division, according to Dean Corbisier, who handles advertising, press relations and event management for American Suzuki.

Citing regulations and competition, the company will discontinue Suzuki automobiles in the United States as the company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Upon restructuring, Suzuki will focus on selling motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and marine outboards.

Corbisier told Boating Industry there would be no interruption in its marine division.

“For the marine outboard dealers and boat companies, it will be business as usual,” he said. “We will still have the same crew working.”

Corbisier said once all restructuring is complete, more resources should be available for its remaining industries, which he cited as the future of American Suzuki.

“Once we get through all of this, it is going to continue to get better and better,” Corbisier said.
