MBIA will co-host American Boating Congress

The Michigan Boating Industries Association has signed on to co-host the American Boating Congress, produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, with the mission to educate U.S. lawmakers about the recreational boating industry. The event will take place May 9-11, 2018 in Washington D.C.

MBIA Board and staff members attend ABC each year. Subjects that are top of mind for 2018 include assuring Ethanol-free fuel for our boaters, protecting the Great Lakes from Asian carp and other invasive species, stopping Algae Blooms, and stopping Ontario Power Generation’s attempts to build a nuclear waste depository along the shores of Lake Huron, to name a few. MBIA also strongly supports WRRDA, as this funding is critical for dredging and infrastructure maintenance.

“ABC is a very effective event that brings the recreational boating industry together to highlight the importance of this multi-billion industry, that is also a great American pastime,” said MBIA Executive Director Nicki Polan. “As a co-host, and with our mission as an association, to protect and promote the industry, we have a responsibility to ensure legislators do what is best for boating with legislation that protects our businesses, waters and boaters for future generations. We encourage all industry professionals to attend.”

MBIA is the official, state-wide marine industry association which serves as the voice to Michigan’s $7.4 billion marine industry and the 4 million people who enjoy Michigan’s nearly 1 million registered boats.

The MBIA is dedicated to the advancement, protection and promotion of boating across Michigan. MBIA produces three association-owned boat shows, the Detroit Boat Show at Cobo Center, the Novi Boat Show in Novi, and the Metro Boat Show in Harrison Twp. The proceeds from these shows benefit boating in Michigan through MBIA programs and promotions.  For more information about the MBIA, go to www.mbia.org or call (734) 261.0123.
