Congressional committees approve Everglades Restoration Funding

The U.S. Senate and House Appropriations Committees recently approved Energy and Water funding for Fiscal Year 2018.

Both bills include $82 million for repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike and $76 million for South Florida Ecosystem Restoration for the Everglades.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association, along with 18 recreational fishing and boating groups, sent a letter to members of Congress on June 23, urging for increased Everglades restoration funding.

“NMMA appreciates the bipartisan support to secure funding for this project and will continue to monitor appropriations in hopes this is a top priority for legislators in the final 2018 budget,” the association said in a statement.
