ASA applauds Florida governor’s fishery management nominations

The American Sportfishing Association and its Florida advocacy arm, Keep Florida Fishing, are praising Florida Gov. Rick Scott for his recommendations to the secretary of commerce for appointments to both the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council.

Nominees for the open recreational fishing seat on the GMFMC include Phil Dyskow, former president of Yamaha Motors; Jeff Miller, owner of Millers Boating Center; and Colonel James Brown, former Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Law Enforcement officer. Nominees for the open recreational fishing seat on the SAFMC include current SAFMC member Chester Brewer; attorney Mike Kennedy; and consultant John Sprague.

“Governor Scott has recommended six highly-qualified leaders to represent Florida’s recreational interests on the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, which make critical decisions impacting the health of, and access to, our federal fisheries. We applaud the Governor’s nominations and commitment to help maintain Florida’s title as the ‘Fishing Capital of the World,’” said Kellie Ralston, ASA’s Florida fishery policy director.
