Halifax International Boat Show had ‘solid’ business, organizers say

Atlantic Canada’s largest boat show returned to Halifax Exhibition Centre February 9 through 12 to strong attendance and sales, show organizers said.

“Even with a number of impending and actual weather ‘events,’ the show enjoyed a brisk attendance, especially on Sunday, pre-snowmageddon,” said Show Manager Scott Sprague. “We heard lots of feedback from dealers that visitors were serious about buying and that business was solid throughout the four days of the event.”

Highlights from this year’s edition included marauding pirates, floating mermaids, model boat builders, and pleasure craft operator card testing right on site, courtesy of BOATsmart! A new element for 2017 was the Traditional Marine Outfitters Nautical Retail section with new show décor and deals on decorative items for visitors to browse and buy. Boatdealers.ca provided an online shopping experience prior to the event, and Discover Boating and Paddle Canada hosted seminars at the show. Discover Boating also hosted a new Poker Run, offering an interactive way for visitors to tour the show.

The next edition of the Halifax International Boat Show will take place February 8-11, 2018.
