IMBC opening speaker addresses packed room

Last night’s opening reception at the International Marina & Boatyard Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., served as foreshadowing to this morning’s keynote address at the show. Speaker Steve Gilliland stood before a packed room as he discussed ways to “Enjoy the Ride” and nurture your passion for your work. IMBC, which is produced by the Association of Marina Industries, continues through Friday, Jan. 27, at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.

“If every job paid the same, what would you do, what are you passionate about?” asked Steve Gilliland of Keynote Resources. Steve challenged the 400 people in attendance at his keynote, sponsored by Safe Harbors Marina, to “do what you love and don’t ever lose your passion because once you lose your passion you will no longer enjoy the ride.”

Today’s schedule includes a special session with social entrepreneur Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation. Folds of Honor is a nationally recognized charity that has raised over $100 million for families of those injured or fallen during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Other breakout sessions include topics on dredging projects, working a full-service marina, techniques for generating slip revenue from boatlifts, understanding marina electrical equipment, and more. Gilliland will also follow up his morning keynote with a smaller breakout session where he can discuss his views and answer questions in a more intimate setting.

Tomorrow’s keynote with Marcus Sheridan, aka The Sales Lion, is at 8:15 a.m., followed by NMMA President Thom Dammrich who will discuss best practices for engaging new markets. Seminars and workshops will continue through Friday until 5 p.m.

One-day conference passes and exhibit hall passes are available onsite. For more information, visit marinaassociation.org/imbc.
