Industry mourns passing of former MIASF director Frank Herhold

FORT LAUDERDALE – The industry mourned the passing of Frank Herhold, former executive director of the Marine Industry Association of South Florida (MIASF), who died Saturday at his home. He held the MIASF position for 20 years and previously owned Anchorage Yacht Basin in Melbourne, Fla. Mr. Herhold was named Citizen of the Year by the city of Ft. Lauderdale in 2007 and was commodore of the city’s 2010 Winterfest Boat Parade. He held a degree in government and math from Monmouth College.

“Frank was the consummate gentleman.  He was always pleasant, upbeat and cheerful. Frank was a ‘can do’ guy! He was a strong leader of MIASF and very effective at bringing people together to work collectively on challenges facing his membership and our industry. The fact that his involvement in the Ft. Lauderdale community went well beyond his responsibilities with MIASF is a testament to the kind of person he was — caring, committed and giving. Frank touched and improved the lives of many people and his loss is deeply felt by all,” said NMMA President Thom Dammrich.

Memorial services will be on Friday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd St., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301.

  1. I have never met a nicer man than Frank. Truly a wonderful industry leader and contributor to his community. He is sorely missed already.

  2. It is with great sadness that I read about the passing of Frank Herhold. I first met him at the MIAMI BOAT SHOW. During our introduction and the during the ensuing conversation, I learned that he lived in Melborne. I asked him if he knew Al Woods. He responded, wow!! How does a young woman like you know the famous Al Woods. I told him that Mr Woods was the Chief Test Pilot for Chance Vought, builders of 10,000 of the famed Corsair WWII fighter plane. I told him that my father was a friend of his and that they worked together on Engineering projects at the company when it was in Stratford,CT
Mr. Herhold was very kind. He taught me my way around the show, and every year he would stop by the R.C. RITCHIE YACHTS BOOTH or on one of our boats in the water at the Mariott and tell me Mr. Woods sends his regard.

Mr Herhold was very well respected by the executives of major builders and the sales staffs at the boat shows. During the years, I introduced him to the President of Atlantic Yachts, Joe Scopinich, who previously was a designer on the F-105 Thunderbird built by Republic Aviation.in Long Island. They became good friends.

MAY GOD BLESS And keep you Mr. Herhold.
    AMEN
