ABYC expands membership to insurance companies, law firms

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is now offering a new membership category designed for insurance companies and law firms operating in the marine industry. Since settling disputes, assigning subrogation, various litigation scenarios and managing loss control all involve large amounts of money, the organization is providing a wider range of services to this membership type.

These members will now have access to archived standards from 1973 to the present, industry research, including archived minutes and technical documents, and off-line technical assistance and consultation. On-site, custom-designed seminars and training can be scheduled for underwriting and loss control managers to influence positive outcomes.

“Our affiliation with ABYC and their knowledgeable staff is invaluable, from connections with industry experts to hard-to-find details on standards and regulations,” said Christina M. Paul, Esq., K&L Gates, LLP. “The ABYC and all of its membership benefits are a must-have resource for the legal and insurance side of the marine business.”

In addition to the perks of this new category, members will also receive the regular benefits. These include, but are not limited to, 24-hour on-line access to the standards, listing in an on-line directory, networking events at on-site locations and opportunity to participate in technical committees to shape the way standards are written.

Since 1954, the non-profit American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has developed safety standards for boat design, construction, equipage, repair and maintenance. The essential global source of marine industry technical information, ABYC’s product safety standards, credentialing, education, training, and other tools help members make boating safer.
